New Year’s Eve 1999. During a hunting trip in a remote village in Moldova, a man is fatally shot. What initially appears to be a tragic accident soon proves to be more complicated. Young detective Agachi is sent from the capital to the village to find out what really happened. As he questions those involved, their stories increasingly begin to contradict one another. Hidden tensions, personal interests and long-kept secrets lie beneath the surface. The deeper Agachi delves into the case, the harder it becomes to distinguish truth from lies.
Cercul had its world premiere at the Transilvania International Film Festival, where it received a Special Mention from the Romanian Days Jury.
“We have been truly impressed by the film’s precise portrait of a society where power relationships win over the rule of law.”

Oudejaarsavond 1999.
